  • Friends re-united? Will it be him?

I'm getting close to one of those moments when I could be made to feel a complete prat, or I might just hit the right button. When I was a lad - and we're talking some 20 years or so ago, or maybe more actually! - I was in the school cricket team, and so was Mouse. And like some 4 or 5 others in the school team, we also played in the local youth (Under-17) team at Oldswinford Cricket Club. But Mouse and me, we were bigger buddies, because we went off on holiday together, cycling round the south-west and staying at Youth Hostels, eyeing up the girls before we had a clue how to approach one. On one year, and I have to say after a magnificent knock by me in the semi-final -  you'll see later why I have to get that bit in - Oldswinford made it to the final of the 20-over knock-out competition [the Gifford Cup, for any followers who remember the Worcestershire and England spinner], but Mouse and I were away on holiday, staying at the Youth Hostel in Bath on the Saturday night and not due home until Monday, with the final being played on the Sunday.Well the men of the Club thought it great that their youngsters had got to the final and given the club a profile, so it was arranged that one of the men (Bob Wright) would fetch us back from Bath, I think putting the bikes on a roof rack, on the Sunday morning. So, Sunday afternoon there's Mouse and me in our whites at Old Hill Cricket Club. Mouse had a reasonable game - he was a bowler. But me - well, following the semi-final runs, and embarassed after Wrighty's trip to collect us, me, I was out first ball. But I have a trophy. We won.Mouse and I went off to different colleges, and our appearances at the Club, even during students' long holidays, became less frequent. I bet I haven't seen him since I was 20.On Tuesday afternoon I was with the lady who bred Avatar. She has invented something, and I might help her with its commercial development. But the important aspect was that she has already organised a patent, using patent agents in Birmingham. She passed me a letter from them, and the list of partners includes a, well, Mouse's real name. So, this is the thing. Is it really Mouse? It's not a common name, but it's not uncommon either. I don't know what he went into, in his studies or later work. But his firm's website has a photograph, and although he's got a moustache he did not have at 16, and he's filled out, I reckon I'm on reasonable ground.I hated school and most of my class-mates (but Mouse wasn't in my class). There's only 3 or 4 I'd be interested in learning what they're about, but Mouse would be Numero Uno.So I'm going to e-mail him and ask. Hmmm. What are the chances?

  • Våga vägra SOF

Hej bloggen.
